But luckily for us we had completely clear roads and skies for the whole ride. The only thing we seem to have to contend with was worms.Yes Worms,my bike looks like I've ridden through a worm farm.It appears the worms have gone on the rampage after the late storms yesterday and decided the road was the place to be.A few pics of the boys below and even a couple from Cafe Derailleur where we have our fantastic lunch on our return.
Todays bunch ride was well attended and the weather was pretty good.It was so foggy when I left my house I wasn't sure I'd be able to find Wangaratta, let alone be there by 7.30am for the Beechworth Ride.In an unusual event the fog completely lifted by the time I got to Boorhaman.Usually the Ovens River flats are thick with fog and I was expecting today to be no exception.

Every Wednesday there is a bunch ride to Beechworth from Wangaratta return.Leaving Espresso on Ovens at 7.30am.It's a great ride with a little of everything. Some easy riding on the flats,a 15km climb up the rail trail where you can go as hard or easy as you like.Coffee in Beechworth and a fast descent out of Beechworth before settling into an easy pace the rest of the way home, arriving back into Wang. a little after 11.30am.When riding in the group on the flat we rotate turns on the front every 5 mins.
Today was a little more special than usual where we helped Tomarsh Loki celebrate his birthday. His family drove up to meet us and presented Tomarsh with a rich chocolate cake which we helped devour. After singing happy birthday of course. As a keen cycling enthusiast I love heading out for a decent ride. As I live on a farm if I want to spoil myself with a coffee during my ride then I have to head for town. Fortunately there are a few good options and one of my favourites is Cafe Derailleur in Wangaratta. The coffee is excellent and they have one of the best Chocolate Brownies I've ever tasted. Have a look at the Google Map below for it's location.
It's around 36 km to Wangaratta from my farm so it's a 72 km return journey which is a good length ride. Today I had a nice tail wind on the way home which is always appreciated and makes you feel like you are flying. With the Tour de France in it's final week and the excitement building with Cadel Evans being in a very strong position there will be a few late nights coming this week. |
