The ride is pretty much uphill all the way to Beechworth then it's a good downhill run home. The road was still a little wet from overnight rain and it was pretty chilly (around 9 degrees). I had a lovely coffee and piece of flourless chocolate cake at the Beechworth Provender. I came back via Chiltern and the Indigo Valley. The last 18 km were pretty much into a strong headwind so I was glad to get back to the car in Rutherglen. All up I did around 95 km.
Today I decide to go for a decent ride so I headed off about 9.30 am this morning. Firstly I drove into Rutherglen and jumped on the bike and headed out the Chiltern Valley road and past this Major Mitchell cairn(see photo). The explorer passed through here in 1836 as he travelled through Victoria looking for agricultural land. I guess he was on horseback or a camel instead of a bike and there was probably no road.

Lake Moodemere I got up before dawn this morning to brave the cold and try and get a nice sunrise shot over Lake Moodemere.
Lake Moodemere is a beautiful Lake about 8 km west of Rutherglen. My brother and I were involved in the rowing club at the lake and we used to ride horses to training 6 days a week. There is an abundance of birdlife at the lake and this morning I was greeted by Kookaburras and Cockatoos as well as Swans and Cormorants. Better take the long lens next time. The panorama is a 5 frame stitch. I've started renovating my weatherboard farmhouse which is over 100 years old.
The first stage is gutting and replastering the bedrooms as well as putting in some new windows to let some light in. The house has been in my family for over 50 years and all my brothers and sisters grew up here. I havn't found any relics from the past yet but I reckon some of the mud wasp nests in the walls could be pretty old. Rutherglen Winery Walkabout.Went to Bullers Winery on the long weekend to listen to some music. Diesel was playing but unfortunately I was to late getting there and missed him. There was a decent covers band playing and I took a few photos of the crowd who were having a great time some going to quite a bit of trouble with there fancy dress themes.
