Today I decide to go for a decent ride so I headed off about 9.30 am this morning. Firstly I drove into Rutherglen and jumped on the bike and headed out the Chiltern Valley road and past this Major Mitchell cairn(see photo). The explorer passed through here in 1836 as he travelled through Victoria looking for agricultural land. I guess he was on horseback or a camel instead of a bike and there was probably no road.
The ride is pretty much uphill all the way to Beechworth then it's a good downhill run home. The road was still a little wet from overnight rain and it was pretty chilly (around 9 degrees). I had a lovely coffee and piece of flourless chocolate cake at the Beechworth Provender. I came back via Chiltern and the Indigo Valley. The last 18 km were pretty much into a strong headwind so I was glad to get back to the car in Rutherglen. All up I did around 95 km.
