This time I had 2 bikes with me and was keen to see if they were set up correctly as I had fitted a new seat and seat post to my original bike (which Steve set up last time) and the second bike I set up myself taking measurements from the other bike. The main changes were made to my shoes and cleats. There was a new pair of custom made cycling shoes that I wanted set up whilst also still wanting to be able to use my old shoes for some rides. Both bikes needed nothing altered which is great and it was interesting to find out when the new custom shoes are worn then there is a 10mm seat height difference needed to achieve the the same position as when wearing my original shoes. We ended up matching each bike to one of the pairs of shoes so I wouldn't be changing seat height and shoes all the time. I imagine in time I will probably set both bikes up for the custom shoes and not bother with the old ones.
I've just got back from a bike fit session with Steve Hogg at the bike shop he runs with wife Margaret in Rosebery Sydney. It is the second time I have visited Steve, the first visit being around 12 months ago. Steve is held in high regard in the bike industry (and for good reason in my opinion) as being of the most experienced and knowledgable bike fitters in Australia if not the world. I enjoy visiting Steve and Margaret as they are very down to earth friendly people who I feel very comfortable around.
